The new “Sinners” movie is set to release on April 18, directed and written by Ryan Coogler, who also made the “Black Panther” and “Creed” movies. This movie follows twin brothers Elijah and Elias, both played by Michael B. Jordan, after they try to leave their troubled lives behind, going back to their hometown to get a new start. There the brothers discover something dark and sinister waiting to welcome them back home. The movie is set in Mississippi during the early 1930s, meaning it also takes place during the Jim Crow era.
On March 12, the Motion Picture Association gave the movie an R-rating because of its strong violence, blood and sexual content and language in the film. After a decade of Coogler writing and directing family-friendly movies or shows, he finally has his chance to let loose with this original horror movie. The trailers for “Sinners” have already shown it’s going to be a gory, action-packed ride for watchers. With a budget of $90 million, this movie is going to mostly revolve around blood-thirsty vampires as they strike down their prey in a grounded fashion, with plenty of bloodshed to come.
While Michael B. Jordan is the lead actor, it also stars well-known actors who are also well beloved for their past movies, like Hailee Steinfeld, known for her “Pitch Perfect” role and being the voice of Gwen Stacey in the animated “Spider-Man” movies. Omar Benson Miller, known for his role in “8-Mile” as Sol George, plays Cornbread in the upcoming movie. Jack O'Connell, known for playing James Cook in the third season of the British drama “Skins” and the WWII movie “Unbroken” as Louis Zamperini, will be playing Remmick in this upcoming movie.
Michael B. Jordan spoke about the difficulties of having to go back and forth between the two characters during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on the carpet of the premiere of the upcoming movie.
“I did every scene like four times, five times, so I think the balance between going back and forth was difficult at times, but you find a rhythm and after a while it was second nature,” he said in the interview. “I had a lot of fun.”
Just by looking at the movie trailers that have been released, this movie adds an amazing, supernatural, vampire- and history-oriented storyline to the movie industry. Those who love these genres might love this movie as well. “Sinners” is going to be in theaters everywhere, and should be expected to be streaming on HBO Max as of November 25, 2025, but there's a chance it could be released sooner.
